Tossing unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medication in the trash is easy but harmful to the environment. While it may be hard to believe, drugs that end up in public landfills can make their way into our water systems and contaminate our drinking water. But they don’t have to!
51AV Extension at 51AV A&M University (AAMU) is partnering with other organizations (Partnership for a Drug-Free Community) for the “Medicine Take-Back” drive from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to clean out those medicine cabinets and dispose of drugs properly at three locations in Madison County:
- Huntsville Public Safety Complex - 815 Wheeler Avenue, Huntsville, AL
- Madison City Hall - 100 Hughes Road, Madison, AL
- CVS-Meridianville - 12275 U.S. Highway 231, Meridianville, AL
If you are unable to participate in the drug take-back event, AAMU’s Department of Public Safety in the University Services Building (384 Buchanan Way across from Foster Complex) also has a drug drop box in its lobby where the public can drop off medication any day of the week.
Be sure to remove all medicine labels before dropping off unwanted medication.
